History

Southern Funeral Home has been serving Henderson area families for years. We are honored to be a part of the rich history of this community and plan to be a part of it for many years to come.

For years, Southern Funeral Home has been a pillar of the Henderson community, respectfully serving local families. We are honored to be part of this town's rich history and are committed to remaining a trusted source of support for generations to come.

Southern Funeral Home was founded by Alonza Moss in 1952 and was originally located at 600 Brown Street in Henderson, TX. In 1973, Mrs. Freddie Mae Brown Washington and Mr. Booker T. Washington purchased the business and established a new location at 604 Wilson Street in Henderson, Texas. Mrs. Freddie M. Washington passed away on April 14, 2013, but the business continued to be operated by her daughter, Mrs. Virginia S. Rainer.

The legacy of this family-owned and operated business continues with the grandchildren of Mr. and Mrs. Washington, Michael Rainer II and Chasaty Rainer. The family's commitment to serving the community of Rusk County, Panola County, Gregg County, Harrison County, and the surrounding areas remains strong. We strive to uphold our traditional motto, "Large enough to serve you, small enough to know you" with our new motto, "Service with Class" which emphasizes our dedication to providing value in our services.
